Emergency Rooms for Geriatrics Are Helping Older Patients Get Diagnosed Accurately

Geriatric emergency rooms (ERs) are becoming increasingly prevalent and are helping to more accurately diagnose older adults. Older adults are often harder to diagnose because they have multiple conditions and medications. These specialized ERs have specific enhancements from non-skid floors to ambient lighting, rather than harsh fluorescent lighting. In many cases, patients will come to the ER without their hearing aids or glasses, but geriatric ERs offer additional tools to help with communication, including a device with a microphone with earphone attached so patients can understand the providers when discussing their ailments and care. These amenities can reduce stress and improve diagnoses.
