Maintaining Your Certification Is Now Easier
By Summer Bloise, MBA, CPMSM, CPCS
Certification is the best way to let others know you are a subject matter expert in the credentialing and/or medical services management field. As our industry evolves and accreditation and regulatory standards frequently change, it is more important than ever to maintain your certification(s).
The Certification Commission of NAMSS (CCN) is committed to improving the certificant experience, and the recertification renewal process has never been easier. Certificants are no longer required to maintain their continuing education (CE)s on paper trackers or keep track of three years’ worth of CEs. Today, a certificant can upload their CE hours throughout their three-year renewal cycle. Start by visiting the recertification section of the NAMSS website, linked here. Then, click “Report Your CEs” and login into your NAMSS account. When it is time to recertify, a certificant can simply log into their recertification portal, validate that they’ve met the CE requirements, and pay their recertification renewal fee.
To verify if you are due to recertify this year, please take a moment to check this list on the NAMSS website.
The window to recertify opens on Aug.1 and closes Dec. 1, so plan ahead! Recertification renewal applications are due by end of day on Dec. 1 of your recertification year.
To ensure that you meet the recertification renewal requirements, the CE requirements by each certification are listed below:
- CPCS®-only certificants need 30 total CE credits (15 NAMSS approved).
- CPMSM®-only certificants need 30 total CE credits (15 NAMSS approved).
- Dual certificants need 45 total CE credits (25 NAMSS approved).
What Are NAMSS-Approved CEs?
NAMSS-approved credits have been sponsored directly by NAMSS or pre-approved by NAMSS for credit. All NAMSS-approved credits have a NAMSS-approved CE certificate with the NAMSS logo at the top.
Non-NAMSS-approved credits are those granted for attendance at non-NAMSS-accredited, industry-related activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops, training sessions, teleconferences, webinars, or online coursework. You can find a list of qualifying CE activities on the NAMSS recertification webpage, linked here.
What Are the 2024 Certification Renewal Fees?
Single certification
- Member $200
- Non-member $375
Dual certification
- Member $225
- Non-member $400
Proactive planning and preparation are the keys to maintaining your certification. You are an industry leader, and you have worked hard to earn your certification(s). We are here to help you maintain your certification(s), so if you have questions, please reach out to the NAMSS Certification staff for questions or for assistance with renewing your certifications at certification@namss.org.
