NAMSS Hosts Ninth-Annual Stakeholder Roundtable

NAMSS’ ninth-annual roundtable, hosted in September 2023, brought together individuals from 12 healthcare organizations to discuss processes for measuring practitioner performance. In continuing from previous roundtable discussions, NAMSS’ 2023 roundtable, “The Role of Practitioner Measurements in Guiding Performance,” focused on how practitioner measurement affects performance and patient outcomes.

NAMSS’ 2023 roundtable report provides an overview of participants’ discussions and potential opportunities for making practitioner-quality assessment more approachable and effective. Taking place virtually for the third year, the NAMSS’ 2023 roundtable included the following organizations:  

• American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
• Accreditation Commission for Healthcare (ACHC)
• Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
• American Hospital Association (AHA)
• American Medical Association — Organized Medical Staff Services (AMA-OMSS)
• Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
• DNV
• Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB)
• Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA)
• Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)
• The Joint Commission (TJC)

2023 NAMSS President Michelle Stultz, RN, CPMSM®, CPCS®, FMSP, introduced the roundtable topic by citing known challenges and shortfalls in current quality-measurement processes and provided the MSPs’ perspective on ways systems can improve to benefit both practitioners and patients. A panel conversation further focused the topic by providing legal, compliance/MSP, and physician perspectives on quality assessment. Roundtable panel participants included:
