NAMSS Releases its New-Hospital Toolkit
By NAMSS Government Relations
The NAMSS policy and government relations team is pleased to release its New-Hospital Toolkit—the second installment of the NAMSS Hospital Toolkit Series. The New-Hospital Toolkit provides MSPs guidance on the opportunities and roles they have in influencing, developing, and launching a new hospital. This Toolkit builds off NAMSS 2020 Hospital Closure Toolkit, which describes MSPs’ role in securing and preserving practitioner-affiliation and other medical-staff data once a hospital closes.
The NAMSS New-Hospital Toolkit includes strategies and protocol MSPs can follow to help ensure a new hospital meets regulatory and accreditation standards. Envisioning, discussing, and developing a new hospital’s infrastructure and bylaws is critical to a new hospital’s short- and long-term success. MSPs’ unique expertise makes them vital contributors to this effort—they see first-hand that administrative inefficiencies can derail a hospital’s ability to establish trust and provide safe and quality care to its community.
The Toolkit also provides specific guidance to MSPs on establishing compliant, comprehensive, and transparent medical-staff bylaws. It also highlights opportunities for MSPs to take leadership roles within their hospitals by using their expertise to establish medical-staff protocol.
MSPs are experts in medical-staff service operations and play a critical role in medical staff design, functionality, and compliance. The NAMSS Hospital Toolkit Series is a resource for MSPs facing significant systematic hospital changes that affect medical staff services—and MSPs. The Series helps equip MSPs with the knowledge, awareness, and confidence to approach, and work with, hospital leadership to ensure functionality and compliance during hospital closures and restructurings.
The NAMSS New-Hospital Toolkit is now available to all NAMSS Members under the NAMSS Advocacy page. The NAMSS policy and government relations team will continue to revise and contribute to the Toolkit Series and is always interested in how NAMSS members use the Series. To provide feedback on the Toolkits within the Series, or to provide ideas for future Toolkits, contact Molly Giammarco, NAMSS Senior Manager for Policy & Government Relations. And look for the NAMSS Hospital Merger-Acquisition Toolkit in late 2021!
